Our Story

Corey and I met on the way to Aquiles, Mexico to serve on a mission trip. We instantly became best friends and candidates for the "Mexico Magic" list by several friends on the trip to become possible couples. We then went on a mission trip to Montreal, Canada that included a trip to New York and Connecticut where our friendship became even stronger. Many of our friends and those who knew us always knew we would one day fall in love and be married but we both doubted those possibilities. Finally, in October of 2008, we decided to give it a go. Love is supposed to be a friendship caught on fire after all, isn't it?

Our relationship has been nothing except for absolute bliss (minus the few bumps here and there :) ). We have grown so much together not only as a couple but also as friends. We encourage each other in every facet of our lives. We are truly best friends in every sense of the word.
On June 8, 2010, we went on a trip with about 30 people to Navarre, Florida. We had just gone out to eat with some of them and decided to go chase crabs after returning to the condo. By the way, that is so fun and so scary! And while we were doing that, Corey suggested we walk away from the group. I was curious as to why we were leaving the group but willingly followed. Then Corey said, "Let’s play a game." And he explained that we were going to draw things in the sand and guess what they were. I of course agreed. So we drew things like a barrel and a pear and a few others before Corey said this was the last one. I was bummed because I had a great one finally. It was a seahorse by the way. And the whole time he was doing this I was standing there kicking sand and running in place because I thought a crab was going to attack me! Those suckers are fast! But anyways, he told me to turn around. And he said, "Do you know what that is?" As I looked at it for a while, nothing was coming to mind until I finally said, "Is it a Jesus fish?" (It was a circle with a triangle on top like a diamond ring but if you think about it it does look like a Jesus fish... kind of). He said, "Yes, yes it is." Then laughed. And then he got down on one knee and gave the whole speech he had been practicing that I partially remember but not really and all I could say was, "Are you serious?" As he said yes so I quickly hugged him and he said, "So I guess that means yes?" And I said, "Well yeah!"

We were married on June 25, 2011 at Oklahoma Christian University. Could not have imagined a more perfect day! The wedding was beautiful and everything I dreamed of and the reception was no different. It was then followed up with a Disneymoon (aka Disney World Honeymoon), which was absolutely fantastic! Such an incredible week. I would recommend everyone go there for their honeymoon!

And then the rest is history...

This is such a great story! :) I always thought a Disney World honeymoon sounded fun...but my husband used to work there and is pretty anti-Disney World. Our honeymoon was still amazing, though.

Thanks for sharing your love story! :)
